An Unforgivable Sin
Chapter 5 of the book of 1st John,
is a very exacting declaration that faith in Jesus Christ
is the only way to receive forgiveness and eternal life
from the Heavenly Father.
Verses 10 thru 16 read,
10. Anyone who believes in the Son of God
has this testimony in his heart.
Anyone who does not believe God
has made him out to be a liar,
because he has not believed the testimony
God has given about his Son.
11. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
12. He who has the Son has life;
he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13. I write these things to you who believe
in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know that you have eternal life.
14. This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
15. And if we know that he hears us,
whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him.
16. If anyone sees his brother commit a sin
that does not lead to death,
he should pray and God will give him life.
I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death.
There is a sin that leads to death.
I am not saying that he should pray about that.
A lady once asked me to identify the sin that leads to death,
mentioned in verse 16.
Her question started a 15 week Bible study
on the Book of 1st John.
The answer to her question is revealed in verse 10.
"...Anyone who does not believe God
has made him out to be a liar,
because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son."
God's word is telling us here
that if we go to our grave not believing in His son,
we have called Him a liar.
We concluded from the study
that an unforgivable sin would be not believing
in Jesus Christ and thereby calling God a liar.
While we still have breath,
all who repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior
can know that they have eternal life.
But woe to those who knowingly do not and call God a liar.
Keep proclaiming Jesus Christ
to the loss world we live in.

Paul, I'm on my lunch break and haven't had an opportunity to look but doesn't the unforgiveable sin have to do with blaspheming the Holy Spirit? I'm not sure so I'm just asking.

ReplyDeletethe Bible does clearly say in Matthew 12:31-32
that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable.
In 1st John 5 it tells us that faith in Jesus Christ leads to life (eternal life - Heaven).
But going to our grave
not having faith in Jesus Christ
and thereby calling God a liar
leads to death (Hell).
The unpardonable sin mentioned in 1st John 5
seems to be dieing in our sins without receiving Jesus Christ.
It is a deep subject and our detailed Bible study
of the book of 1st John helped our group
grow in their dedication to missions
and sharing the Gospel with family and friends.
